Komati River Bridge, Swaziland, South Africa

The government of Swaziland, South Africa and parastatal bodies collaborated in a joint venture to construct the Maguga dam.

This project will provide electricity as well as irrigation and drinking water.
The dam will put the exisiting bridge between Mbabane, the capital of Swaziland and Piggs Peak under water necessitating the construction of a new bridge.
The new Komati River Bridge has a total length of 300 m and consists of 20 segments.

The bridge was incrementally launched and tensioned in both the longitudinal and transverse directions.

Owner KOBWA - Komati Basin Water Authority + a JV consisting of the government of Swaziland and South Africa and others +++ Contractor Grinaker Construction +++ Consulting Engineer V.K.E. Consulting Engineers, ZMCK DSI Services Steeledale Systems supplied a total of 95tons of DYWIDAG Multistrand Tendons Type MA 15-0.62" St 1570/1770 (grade 250) with Coupler Type R; Supply of material, tensioning, grouting and technical supervision; Auxilliary tie downs with DYWIDAG Strand and post-tensioning bars.
